The $500 scholarship was established in 1995 as a tribute to Lisa Santiago Ventura, an employee of the home care agency, who was killed during a high speed police chase. Ms. Ventura was an innocent bystander whose vehicle was fatally struck during the chase. In her memory, the agency gives the Lisa Santiago Ventura Memorial Scholarship to a graduating senior of the Greater Lawrence Technical School where she was a student.
“We are happy to be presenting this scholarship to a student like Ms. Merced Gonzalez who is pursuing her education in health care,” said John G. Albert, MBA, FACHE, President / CEO of Home Health VNA, and its affiliate agencies Merrimack Valley Hospice and HomeCare, Inc. “We are greatly impressed with the dedication Ms. Merced Gonzalez has shown to her studies and we wish her the best as she continues her work in the health care field.”
Desiree Merced Gonzalez has been accepted to the nursing program at Middlesex Community College in Lowell, MA. Desiree is a resident of Lawrence and is currently working as a CNA at Edgewood Retirement Community.
Linda Cote, lead teacher in Health Careers at the Greater Lawrence Technical School, commends the work of Ms. Merced Gonzalez. “She is an all around great student and is an excellent representation of the Greater Lawrence Technical School.”
