Lawrence, Mass. – Tufts Medicine Care at Home President and CEO Karen Gomes, RN, MS, CPHQ has been elected as president of the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts Board of Directors.

Founded in 1969, the Boston-based Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts is a nonprofit trade association of home care agencies that promotes home care as an integral part of the health care delivery system.

“We are thrilled to have Karen step into this role at such a critical time for the Alliance and our industry as we face historic workforce challenges and continue to manage the effects of the pandemic,” said Jake Krilovich, executive director of the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts.

“I am honored to take an even greater role within this organization that shares our mission of advancing community health through care and services in the home,” Gomes said. “As Americans age and live longer, many with multiple chronic conditions, there is a growing need for the advocacy led by Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts on the key issues facing the home care industry for the benefit of all our communities.”

In her leadership role at Tufts Medicine Care at Home, a Lawrence-based nonprofit organization in its 127th year, Gomes oversees a staff of expert healthcare professionals who deliver the highest quality care in all the places patients call home. Yet perhaps her most impactful accomplishment has been behind the scenes, as the driving force behind the organization (formerly named Home Health Foundation) becoming a member of the Wellforce health system in 2018.

Earlier this year, Wellforce transitioned to its new name of Tufts Medicine – and Home Health Foundation to Tufts Medicine Care at Home – to reflect the clinically integrated network’s closer relationship with Tufts University and commitment to an advanced, completely connected healthcare experience for patients and care teams alike.

According to Gomes, the core values and overall commitment to excellence of Tufts Medicine Care is Home is echoed by the membership of the Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts.

“The collective focus is on health as much as healing,” Gomes said, “and to the well-being of our patients and communities whom we so proudly serve.”
